2024 Indiana Child Passenger Safety Conference

Safe Kids Indiana and the Automotive Safety Program host the annual Child Safety Advocate Awards to honor people who exhibit true dedication to the safety and well-being of children in their communities. This annual celebration has taken place since 1997 and recognizes organizations and individuals who demonstrate extraordinary efforts in preventing injury and death among children in Indiana.

The 28th Annual Child Safety Advocate Awards and luncheon will be held at IVY Tech Community College Culinary and Conference Center on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

Do you know an amazing child safety advocate? Is there a tech or instructor that has gone above and beyond to keep kids safe in your community? Safe Kids Indiana and the Automotive Safety Program will host the Annual Child Safety Advocate Awards (CSAA) to honor people who exhibit true dedication to the safety and well-being of children in their communities. This Annual Celebration recognizes organizations and individuals who demonstrate extraordinary efforts in preventing injury and death among children in Indiana.

  • Registration

    The 2024 Indiana Child Passenger Safety Conference registration is free for the first 200 Indiana Child Passenger Safety Technicians.

  • Continuing Education
    Attendees can earn child passenger safety technician CEUs, as required for CPS Technician recertification. Also, law enforcement officers will be able to earn training hours by attending conference sessions.
  • Car Seat Clinic

    The annual large community car seat clinic will be Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at Ivy Tech Community College, Parking Lot 9, Located west of the North Illinois Center (108 W. 28th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208).

    The Automotive Safety Program & Safe Kids Indiana are looking for volunteers to assist with the annual Ivy Tech Car Seat Clinic on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

    Volunteers for the 2:00pm to 6:00pm shift will assist with:

    1. Setup items such as tables, chairs, traffic cones, car seats, signs, etc.
    2. Assist with the set up of car seat clinic lanes and supplies
    3. Assemble paperwork and distribute to families awaiting car seat inspections
    4. Welcome families, provide paperwork and educational materials to families and provide information on the inspection process
    5. Retrieve items needed such as car seats, towels, noodles, etc.
    6. Assist with directing traffic flow
    7. Break down and recycle car seats
    8. If bilingual, provide interpretation to caregivers
    9. Other duties as needed

    Volunteers for the 3:30pm to 7:30pm shift will assist with:

    1. Assemble paperwork and distribute to families awaiting car seat inspections
    2. Welcome families, provide paperwork and educational materials to families and provide information on the inspection process
    3. Retrieve items needed such as car seats, towels, noodles, etc.
    4. Assist with directing traffic flow
    5. Break down and recycle car seats
    6. If bilingual, provide interpretation to caregivers
    7. Other duties as needed
    8. Provide clean up at the end of the event which includes loading supplies into trucks, breaking down boxes, sorting supplies, moving cones, etc.

    • The clinic will be canceled in the event of bad weather or an emergency.
    • Please dress appropriately for the weather, and in comfortable shoes and clothing.
    • Volunteers must be over the age of 18.
    • Volunteers must show registration ticket at the entrance gate.
    • Volunteers who are bilingual are highly needed for interpretation of Spanish, Haitian Creole, Burmese, French, and other languages.

    About the 2023 Annual Car Seat Clinic:

    The annual Indianapolis Car Seat Clinic is a partnership with the Automotive Safety Program, Anthem, Dorel Juvenile, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, and Safe Kids Indiana. Car seats are inspected by child passenger safety technicians (CPSTs). Both CPSTs and volunteers are essential to a successful clinic. In 2023, the Indianapolis Ivy Tech Car Seat Clinic conducted over 126 inspections and provided over 118 car seats to families in need.



  • Child Safety Advocate Awards

    The 27th Annual Child Safety Advocate Awards will honor individuals and organizations who have demonstrated extraordinary efforts in preventing injuries and deaths among Indiana’s children.

    Cancellation requests must be made in writing to Becky Tamosaitis no later than Friday, April 19, 2024. Registrant substitutions will be accepted.
