Campus Life

The IU School of Medicine Indianapolis campus is located just a mile and a half from the center of downtown Indianapolis, ranked nationally for its livability and 8th by Forbes for best places in the nation for business and careers, with recognition for major health care industry contributions. Students form close bonds with peers and faculty. Outside of class, students benefit from the continued growth and development of the Indianapolis community.

Most of the medical education courses at the Indianapolis campus are held in the Van Nuys Medical Science Building.

Extracurricular Activities

The nation’s most competitive residency programs seek well-rounded medical students who demonstrate an ability to balance work with recreation. Recreation activities, including athletics, student mentoring, civic engagement and hobbies, help students relieve stress and return refreshed to academic work. Students can volunteer at numerous organizations while studying at IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis. The campus offers a variety of student-focused participation opportunities as well, including Medical Student Council, Student Interest Groups and Committees — organizations that are also open to students across the state.

    Indianapolis offers many opportunities for cultural and historical enrichment, including a symphony and other performance art organizations, theaters and museums The award-winning Indianapolis Zoo, Children’s Museum and Conner Prairie provide residents with additional cultural activities and entertainment year round. Medical students enjoy full access to IUPUI’s facilities and programs as well.

    Sports enthusiasts can find an abundance of opportunities to cheer in Indianapolis. The city’s many sports teams offer year-round family fun. Indianapolis proudly supports its professional teams across the sporting spectrum — football (Colts), professional hockey (Fuel), men’s and women’s basketball (Pacers and Fever) and baseball (Indians).
